Theatre & Musical Productions & Art
Shows
Artstream has sponsored a variety of theatrical and
musical productions by various directors and producers; including
art show productions. A few of these productions include:
"Clothes
On a Fish" Art Show
The brain-child of Pagosa artists Chris Haas and
Ursala Hudson, this one-night-only exposition opened its doors
in a generously large, vacant office space formerly used by
Parelli Natural Horsemanship. A typical art show in Pagosa
Springs generally pulls in an average of 40-60 people; this
show pulled in over 300 folks from all walks of life!
"Gunakadeit"
Sea Monster"
The text adaptation by Ishmael Hope of "Gunakadeit"
was directed by Jim Simard. In November 2006, the Smithsonian's
National Museum of the American Indian hosted the troupe to
perform the play for a week as part of the exhibit "Listening
to Our Ancestors." Artstream Cultural Resources was a
sponsor in the "Raven Brings Box of Delight" May
2006 performance in Juneau, Alaska.
"Raven
Brings Box of Delight"
As part of the "Northwest Coast Artists' Gathering,"
2006, this evening of Native American performers and musicians
started off with "Gunakadeit" (see above), followed
by glass artist Preston Singletary's "Little Big Band",
then closing the evening with local Juneau singer/songwriter
Archie Cavanaugh's band, "Smokehouse."
Wizard
of Oz
Pagosa Springs school teacher, Susan Garman's first director's
debut with the tutelage and assistance of director, Bill Hudson.
Keeping in the tradition of the Pagosa Pretender's Family
Theatre, the cast (of over 100) wrote the improv "script."
Lord of the Springs
Comedian Mark Brown co-directs with director Bill Hudson;
a spoof on the "Lord of the Rings", again in the
tradition of the Pagosa Pretenders improv "script."
Director, Bill Hudson,
has been producing and directing Children's Theatre since
1972. He became more serious about it when his children were
young. In 1981, he and his wife, Clarissa, began Tricycle
Theatre Company and produced various plays always with musical
themes including an annual Christmas musical at Perseverance
Theatre in Juneau, Alaska, (where he worked for many years
in various roles as a set designer, poster designer and producer/director).
As an Alaska Artist-in-the-Schools, he taught acting, produced
theatrical pieces, taught musical instrument making and fine
art. In 1994, he began the Pagosa Pretenders Family Theatre,
with the concept of local family members working together
in the entire production of a play (from acting, to costuming,
set design, lighting, backstage crew, publicity, etc.). Bill
is a visual artist, graphic designer, and web-designer (HudsonHudson,
Ltd.) and is the editor/publisher/writer/owner of the
online daily news source Pagosa
Daily Post.
